Layla's LittleBlog Hello, Adventurers. By way of an intro, Layla Littlenymph is a fictional character that rents space inside my head. She first came into existence in the Spring of 2010, where she debuted in the online game, Free Realms, produced by the late, great, SOE. Since that time, she has grown beyond my expectations to take on something of a life of her own, or at least to hear her tell it... I began posting as Layla on the now-closed Official Free Realms Forum, and Free Realms Insider, thinking it only logical that I post to the game forums under the same name by which I was known in-game. An obvious game-noob mistake. From there she went on to become a moderator for the also closed Mystic Mayhem, and Legends of Mayhem websites. Eventually, she came to be an Admin and co-creator of Mystic Adventures, and so... here we are. Between then and now, Layla has been a regular poster on many game and entertainment based forums. She has been recreated in a variety of games to include EverQuest2, GuildWars2, Aura Kingdom, Mabinogi, and many others. Today, she can most easily be found on Villagers and Heroes, produced by Mad Otter Games, but I'm sure that's not the last place she will pop up before her time is done. She has pretty much become my adopted persona on all things game and entertainment related, and I imagine she will continue to fill that role for some time to come. You can also find her on her "fictional character" page on Facebook, where she makes weekly posts on games, comedy, literature, cinema, and pretty much any and all entertainment based topics. And so, Layla now has a blog. I guess it would be more accurate to say that "I" have a blog, written under the pen name of Layla Littlenymph. To be honest, Layla and I have very little in common aside from an appreciation for entertainment, a serious game addiction, and a snarky, sarcastic, satirical, sense of humor. I plan to write those things that Layla is known to be interested in, but I will also be writing about the things that I am interested in as well. Here and here alone, Layla and I shall merge, and you will have an opportunity to get to know the person behind Layla a little better. I'm not as pretty, and I'm not nearly so sweet, but there is one thing I do have over Layla; I am actually real. I look forward to getting to know you all a little better and apologize in advance for the fact that you will get to know me. Who knows? Given time, I might even manage to grow on you. ~LL A quick note on format:When we first created this board in 2016, it was set up to display the newest post first. That is the standard format for a blog but we decided to change the format to that of a standard forum page so that members could post an index on the opening post, linking to materials they had posted elsewhere on the site. Sadly, we do not have the option for each member to choose the format they wish when creating their own blog. Each board on a ProBoards site is something of an all or nothing proposition. If you wish to read thru a blog on this board as it develops, just start with the first page as you would any other board. If you prefer to just see the newest posts, jump to the last page and begin with the last post and pretend it's a Japanese graphic novel. As always, thanks for being here. Feel free to drop in any time. ~ETW Directory* Galleries:Captions, graphics, and links, from articals posted by Layla LittlenymphChild of LightVillagers and Heroes: Scenic Tour * Cinematic Reviews:* Game Reviews:Child of LightCivilization - 3Villagers and HeroesZenge* Literary Reviews:* Music Reviews: * Last 10 Articles: Threads Posted by Layla Littlenymph (newest first). The Sun Sets On LandmarkThe Wednesday Playlist: Halloween EditionWednesday's All-Hallows-Eve Playlist* Top 10 Suggested Threads by Layla Littlenymph: Not posted in any specific order. 05-02-2018, Wednesday. To my not so many fans and followers [Hi MoM!] my not so many friends (Hi Mom!] and my way too many family members [sorry Mom] let me just say... HAPPY -[very belated]- NEW YEAR! Yes, the second of May is not the ideal day to make a New Year's post, but it's been one of those years... already. It started off with a bang on New Year's day itself. Actually, it was not so much with a bang as it was a whine when my beloved PC decided to give up the ghost in an underwhelming but catastrophic manner. A drop in income and some increasing familial responsibilities placed getting a new PC down the list of priority and affordability. I spent the first part of the year being able to do little more than tap into social media from time to time, and ever since then, catching up with what I have missed. While I was not able to get the system of my dreams, I was able to get one that will suffice. My apology for the long absence. I am happy to have reached a point where I have an opportunity to be more active. Sadly, even though it's late, you can not escape my new year musings. I don't mean to continue in a negative tone but it seems that everywhere I look on social media there is a sense of relief by many that the awful year of 2017, the mad stepchild 2016, has finally been laid to rest. But... what's to follow? Ah... poor 2017. I knew thee well. I mourn thee not. "I suspect a lot of the dismay is from the #nevertrump segment of society that is still in shock over the ascension of God-Emperor-Elect Trump, and have no doubt, that is not going to end anytime soon, nor quietly." That is a direct quote from my first post in last years blog, and it is as if no time has passed. Well into our second year of a Trump Administration, the furor remains at the fever pitch of a campaign season. As the old Chinese curse has it: “May you live in interesting times,” and there is little doubt that we will continue to endure some very "interesting" times. Whether or not our interesting times will turn out to be a curse has yet to be determined but, you will have a hard time convincing some of that. Truth be told, all times are interesting in some respect. There is but so much that any one person can do to influence the world's orbit, let alone the orbit of their own affairs. All I can say is that regardless of how interesting your times are, there is happiness to be found within your own little orbit. Sometimes you have to look for it. Sometimes you have to work for it. Sometimes you even have to make it. Most important of all though is that you believe it is possible, for it is. Contrary to recent remarks by the former First Lady, there is no such thing as "no hope" until such time as you yourself relinquish all hope. Hope cannot be stripped from you. It can only be relinquished by you. I guess what I'm trying to say here, my friends, is that when Life gives you lemons, there is but one thing to do... Chuck those lemons right back at it and be sure to aim for the head. What does Life expect from you? Lemonade? I don't actually believe Life really expects much of anything from the likes of you and I. Even if it does, why should we care? Who is Life to have expectations of us? It is OUR place to have expectations of Life! The sad truth of the matter is that Life will always hand you lemons. He seems to revel in it. If you have not yet gotten any, consider yourself fortunate and avoid the mailbox because I promise you, lemons are on the way. Speaking for myself, I actually like lemonade, but if you have followed me at all, you are probably already aware of that. It is Life's lemons that teach us humility. It is Life's lemons that give us the strength to overcome adversity. Without those lemons, our times would not be so "interesting" but, they would certainly be more boring. Just remember this... You can not prevent Life from giving you lemons but, Life can't make you suck them. Whether or not you suck is up to you. Are you a sucker? LL
I suppose none of the above has much bearing on an entertainment forum, but that which is not fit for discussion in the open forums can find a more comfortable place on a personal blog, eh? That said, I have been taking a little time for entertainment and have been looking at the unplayed games in my Steam library. I was rather pleased to find an overlooked gem or two among the drek. I'll take a little time over the next week or two and talk a little about what I've dug up. Something a little closer to home is the new Wellspring expansion coming to Villagers and Heroes on the fourteenth of this month. As many of you know, I participate on the Test Server for V&H and have had a good look at them. There is always a little good and bad that comes with any major expansion but I am finding more there to like than not. You can get a little information and a helpful link or two for the Wellspring expansion, HERE. While V&H has had the lion's share of my attention, I've been able to take a little time with some developing titles you may find interesting. I'm finishing up a beta phase for Phoenix Dynasty 2 and expect to see it released on Steam sometime this month. Another project that is going along smoothly is the open beta for the fan revival of Pirates Online, the Pirates of the Caribbean themed game from Disney. I've also been following news on the agonizingly slow remake of Free Realms but there is not much to reveal there, as usual. I'll be talking about all three of these and more as well in the weeks to come. Game On! LL READING:Field of Dishonor David WeberBook 4 of The Honor Harrington series. This series is considered a modern-day sci-fi classic but it's one I have never gotten around to before. I am happily correcting that oversight. If you enjoy the genre and like a strong female protagonist, you will likely enjoy it. I will be saying more on this series when I'm able to get a little deeper into it PLAYING:Villagers and Heroes [online]. Villagers and Heroes Test Server. Major expansion to release on 05-14-2018. AOE - Age of Empires 2 HD [pc]. Botanicula [pc] Marie's Room [pc] " Marie's Room is a short-story exploration game about an unconventional friendship between two classmates, told through memories. You play as Kelsey, remembering Marie's room as it was 20 years ago. What happened to Marie and Kelsey all those years ago? “It was supposed to be simple. Get in, get out. I should have known better.” Kelsey arrives in a seemingly empty room. She has only one goal, one purpose there -- getting Marie’s journal. But the room is not empty at all. In fact, it’s filled to the brim with memories, memories from 20 years ago, some of them which Kelsey would rather forget. Some of them, she cherishes to this day. Join Kelsey in her trip down memory lane and uncover Marie and Kelsey’s past by exploring Marie’s room as it was all those years ago, or at least, how Kelsey remembers it. Explore their stories, linked to every object in the room. Open drawers and search Marie’s laptop for clues. Find out what secrets the room holds. " -- Kenny Guillaume LISTENING:The Sean Hannity ShowWATCHING:Beauty And The Beast [live action, 2017]. Starring Emma Watson & Dan Stevens I have to confess that I liked this version of the B&B story far more than I thought I would. The fact that Emma Watson is a hottie has no bearing on my opinion... though I doubt rather much it had any negative impact. Just saying... Seriously, though, this is one of the better animation to lave action transitions that have ever seen. Layla reccommends.
