Minecraft Story Mode:
Best idea ever, or just another overpriced VN (visual novel).
I suppose you guys have already heard about this collaboration between Mojang (now a division of Microsoft) and Telltale games. After all, it IS already in its second stage of production. As for myself, I'm a little behind the curve it would seem. I had zero idea this was even in the works until I saw it being released on Steam as I was browsing the Steam library looking for a bargain during the Halloween sale.
I have to admit that it looks rather entertaining, but it seems to me to be more along the lines of a VN as opposed to a game with a degree of replayability. The sale price, whether bought on Steam, or as a direct client download is around $25.00. That's actually somewhat cheap for a game these days, but pretty much the top end of what I would pay for a VN. Now don't get me wrong, I have a (not so secret) love for a good VN, but I most always pick them up a year or two after production when they are prone to go on sale. The reason being that once played, a VN tends to just sit there until you develop a desire to run through it again. Compared to other forms of entertainment a VN is not really a bad expenditure when one divides the total hours played into the sale price. That said, this particular offering is set to come out in a series of 5 parts (second part already being sold) and $125.00 is a bit more than I care to put into a singular story at this time.
Still though, I can see where a Minecraft fan might be interested in this, and I have to confess that my entertainment budget is rather slim compared to what my average friend spends in a years time. For those that have not picked it up, but would like to, you can get it from Steam or you can get the direct download from Telltale Games. If you would simply like to learn more about Minecraft Story Mode in general, visit the Telltale link, previously provided.
But, enough text. How about a few trailers?
