Warriors are nice for looting weapons because they use more than anyone else. Axe, mace, sword, greatsword(two handed swrod), hammer, longbow, rifle, shield, warhorn on land. Underwater they use harpoon gun and spears.
After you level up enough you'll be able to change weapons in battle with your ~ key. I like to have a long distance weapon like longbow or rifle with a come range weapon or weapons to swap. A hammer is great weapon except it has about no distance to it's attacks so leveling up I don't like the hammer much you can't even throw the hammer. Using one-hand weapons you have Main-Hand and Off-hand. Shield and warhorn are the only Off-hand only weapons. If you have any combo of axe, mace or swords place the strongest in the Main-Hand slot then put the weaker of the 2 in Off-Hand. Personally I like the sword mace combo with a longbow ~ swap.
Major differences between longbow in rifle is mass attack or single target. Longbows can attack more than one target which is not always good if you're ready for more than one to come after you. Rifles are aimed to one target don't hit others in the area.

I use a GS/LB swap, my build supports it more, especially since one of my traits boosts damage done by gs and lb

It depends, though, on what you plan on doing as to what weapons you want to carry on a Warrior. Most that do PvP and WvW will carry a Hammer and some second slot. In WvW most, if not all, warriors run Hammer with Sword + Warhorn as a Frontliner in a zerg to give that stun and daze once stacks of Stability are gone and Sword + Warhorn for applying Speed (Warhorn either skill 4 or 5) and Sword 2 (the leap) to keep up with a tag and to jump into a zerg and start bombing right in the middle of them. Nike warriors are good for this, meaning they are super tanky and can take more damage than a Guardian. It all depends on how you build them as to what weapons you should do. For PvE I usually run GS/LB and I'm working on my WvW build but my Warrior will be running Hammer/Sword + Warhorn as a Nike shouts frontliner (more than likely, or just a straight up nike that can take damage LIKE A BOSS!)

Another thing to think about when building your warrior and picking it's weapons are how you want it to be in PvE before you take on challenges like WvW and PvP. Most people build their warriors to be a "zerk" warrior, or a pure DPS berserker stat warrior (power/precision/ferocity). That's how I built mine for PvE and I run, as I said above, Greatsword/Longbow. There's some things she can't do alone but most she can do by herself, it just depends on what she's doing. My warrior is pretty much a glass cannon for DPS in PvE, set to do the most damage possible with the runes and sigils needed to support it as well (not really the runes as most would use Scholar or Strength runes and because I'm a cheapo and can't/couldn't afford them I got Runes of Rage which aren't too bad). If you want good things to use, I would check out MetaBattle and see some of their builds for various things. You don't have to change builds just to do a World Boss but if you want to, go for it; I do believe most people at least have a WvW, PvE, Dungeon and PvP build for their characters (not just warriors) so take everything into careful consideration when you do that.

Yeah my gear is precision/toughness/condition damage, so I'm a bit more tanky, especially with my Sanctuary runes. And I use the LB adrenaline ability a lot
